Zitz [ t͡sɪt͡s ] has been part of the municipality of Rosenau in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district in the far west of the state of Brandenburg since 2001 .

geography

Zitz is located fifteen kilometers southwest of the city of Brandenburg an der Havel . The neighboring village to the east is the village of Rogäsen about one and a half kilometers away. To the west it is also about one and a half kilometers to the state border with Saxony-Anhalt . The village of Karow is two kilometers behind the national border .

Zitz located in the transition zone between the Baruth glacial valley belonging Fiener break in the south and hilly plateaus of Karower plate in the north. These landscapes are of the Ice Age genesis. The vineyard is 69 meters high between Zitz and Rogäsen. In the Karower Platte north of Zitz, the Steinbach flows off to the west.

history

Zitz was first mentioned in a document in 973. From 1382 to 1571 the village was part of the Brandenburg bishopric , the imperial principality of the bishops of the Brandenburg diocese .

Attractions

The Zitz village church was rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1750 . Next to this, there is a residential building at Dorfstrasse 54 and two farmsteads at Dorfstrasse 81 and 83, which are under monument protection. A memorial for the Wars of Liberation on Dorfstrasse commemorates the battles between a Prussian cavalry squadron and the Zitzer village population against plundering French soldiers.

Protected areas

Zitz is located in the SPA area (European bird sanctuary) Fiener Bruch. To the southwest is the two-part protected landscape component Fiener Bruch near Zietz. Furthermore, some areas are designated as protected biotopes . The road to Karow is a protected avenue.
