Warchau has been part of the Rosenau community in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district in the west of Brandenburg since 2001 .
geography
Warchau is ten to fifteen kilometers west of the city of Brandenburg an der Havel . The neighboring village to the east is the village of Wusterwitz about two kilometers away. To the west, the state border with Saxony-Anhalt is about three kilometers away. Gollwitz is two kilometers to the northwest . The village of Warchau lies in the transition zone between the valley sand lowland area of the Wusterwitzer basin to the north and the hilly plateaus of the Karower Platte in the south. These landscapes are of the Ice Age genesis. The Steinbach rises in the Karower Platte south of Warsaw and flows off to the west.
history
The place was first mentioned in 1365 as "Warchowe". The village was owned by the aristocracy for centuries. Around 1800 there were two manors and one windmill and one water mill in the village. The von Schildt family owned the manors. The von Britzke family later took over the property. On September 30, 1928 the manor district of Warsaw was united with the rural community of Warsaw. On July 1, 1950, the previously independent community of Gollwitz was incorporated.
In 1901 Warchau was connected to the Wusterwitz – Görzke railway line . Railway operations were maintained until 1974.
Attractions
The village church Warchau is a stone church with a tower made of half-timbered. In addition to this, the old parish farm and the Warchau manor house, which has been expanded in the local style, with half-timbered buildings on the upper floor, are listed as historical monuments.
Protected areas
To the south of Warsaw are areas of the Karower Platte in the SPA area (European bird sanctuary) Fiener Bruch. A small area in the village has been placed under protection as a Protected Biotope . About one kilometer to the west there is a protected part of the landscape that is designated as the “Warchauer Mühle”.
