Route of the Solonceni trolleybus

The Solonceni trolleybus was a short-lived trolleybus operation in the Moldovan village of Solonceni . It ran on a route of about 2.9 kilometers and existed from May 1, 1992 to January 3, 1994.

Route

Solonceni is located in the Moldovan Rajon Rezina twelve kilometers north of the city Rezina on the west bank of the Nistru and thus on the border with the separatist Transnistrian Moldavian Republic . At the beginning of the 1990s, the village had around 3,000 inhabitants and had no public transport within the town , nor was it connected to overland transport. The most important employer was the local milk processing state farm , were among the several farms. The now defunct company was located on the periphery of the northern outskirts of Solonceni, up to three kilometers from the last houses in the southern part of the municipality.

To improve this situation, the manager of the sovkho made the decision in 1991 to build a trolleybus line, which was to connect the farm with the town. For this purpose, the village road was first paved and the contact line system and the substation were built. The installation of these systems was carried out by employees of the trolleybus operation of the Moldovan capital Chișinău , who also took on the one-year training of two trolleybus drivers. A special feature was the single-lane contact line, which was used for both directions of travel. The turning loops were not closed, that is, there were no air switches . This required the manual folding of the pantograph poles at the two end points.

From the inventory of the trolleybus operation in Chișinău the trolleybus 2049 of the type ZiU-682V was rented and transferred to Solonceni, it cost 50,000 rubles annually. Operations began on May 1, 1992, with eight pairs of trips a day and carried out by the sovkhos. Transportation was free. There were no fixed intermediate stops , they were stopped as required. A barn along the way served as a depot . There was no contact line connection there, the trolleybus had to be pulled down with a tractor at the start of operations.

The extension from the southern end of the line to Rezina was planned as a further expansion stage. Due to a change in the management of the state farm at the end of 1993, this could no longer be realized. Instead, the electricity costs of the trolleybus operation were taken as an opportunity to cease operations. January 3, 1994 was the last day of operation of the trolleybus in Solonceni.

The catenary system was dismantled and sold to Chișinău. The rented ZiU-682V was also returned to the trolleybus operation in Chișinău. It was still in use there in 2006, but was no longer available in early 2010. The concrete catenary masts , however, were not dismantled, together with the two reversing loops they are reminiscent of the Solonceni trolleybus to this day.
