Obertor (Ammerschwihr)
The Upper Gate (French: Porte haute ) in Ammerschwihr , a French commune with the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region , was built at the end of the 14th century. The fortified tower on Grand Rue was added to the list of listed buildings ( Base Mérimée ) in France in 1931 as Monument historique .
description
The upper gate on the western side of the city was built as part of the city fortifications towards the end of the 14th century. The 20 meter high tower has a high roof, retaining walls hold the turn in the lower third. The corner cuboids are highlighted. The upper floor was designed in half-timbered construction. The gate passage is designed on the city side with a round arch, on the field side with a pointed arch.
On the west and east sides there are sundials and the city's coat of arms.
