history

Oberweier was first mentioned in a document in 1115 as Babinwilare, but in 1885 remains of the wall were discovered southwest of the place, which already suggest a Roman settlement in the area. In 1307 the place fell to the margraviate of Baden and was called Oberwilre from the 14th century (= upper hamlet, probably to distinguish it from Ettlingenweier, which was sometimes called "Underweyer" ).

As around Ettlingen, the War of the Palatinate Succession also left its mark on Oberweier in 1689.

On October 1, 1974, Oberweier voluntarily joined the new town of Ettlingen .

politics

Like all districts in Ettlingen, Oberweier has a local council , which was re-elected in the local elections on May 26, 2019.
