Obestatin is a hormone that is involved in the regulation of food intake by counteracting the effects of the appetite-stimulating ghrelin .

Education and Effects

Obestatin is a peptide hormone that, like its physiological counterpart ghrelin, is released in the stomach from the precursor peptide prepro-ghrelin. There the emptying of the stomach is delayed and the mobility of the duodenum is reduced. It may play a role in the development of obesity , but in animal experiments it has only shown a minor effect on the development of body weight. Whether it is therefore suitable as a drug for the treatment of overweight people has not been conclusively clarified, but it can be doubted.
