Obscene Crisis is a Canadian grindcore and deathgrind band from Quebec that has been active intermittently since 1992.

history

The band was founded in 1992 by guitarists Stéphane Côté and his brother Jean-Pierre Côté. In 1994 a first demo with six songs under the name Modern Hypocrisy followed . In the same year bassist Yan Thiel left the line-up and founded Neuraxis . The drummer Martin Auger, another founding member, later also joined Neuraxis. The self-financed debut album Silence of the Mind followed in 1995 , produced by guitarist Pierre Rémillard and recorded by singer Eric Fiset, the Côté siblings on electric guitars, bassist Chrystian Boyer and drummer Stephane Chartrand. Boyer was then replaced by Martin Riendeau before it was dissolved in 1997. In 2003 the group was revived with a new line-up, as Yan Chamberland was now represented as a drummer in the band. However, the band disintegrated in 2004 without a further release. The band has been active again since 2007.

style

Eduardo Rivadavia from Allmusic assigned the band to grindcore . Joel McIver also referred to the band as a grindcore group in his book Extreme Metal and noted a tonal similarity to Obliveon . At rockdetector.com , however, the group was assigned to the Deathgrind.
