Obliveon was a Canadian thrash and technical death metal band that was founded in 1987 under the name Oblivion in Longueuil and dissolved again in 2002.

history

The band was founded in January 1987 under the name Oblivion by guitarist Martin Gagné and singer and bassist Stéphane Picard. A short time later, drummer Francis Giguère joined the cast. In the same year they recorded their first two demos. The first in March and the second called Whimsical Uproar ... in September, at which point the band was already called Obliveon. In 1989, drummer Giguère left the band and was replaced by Alain Demers. Pierre Rémillard joined the band as an additional guitarist. Together they recorded the demo Fiction of Veracity .

In 1990 the band released their debut album, From This Day Forward, through Active Records . Due to the lack of success of the album, however, the group soon separated from the label. The album was only released in Europe , but was later re-released in Canada through Press Play Records . In 1993 the second album Nemesis followed in self-publication, of which around 5,000 pieces were sold. The album was later also re-released via Press Play Records. In 1994 Bruno Bernier joined the band as the new singer, so that Stéphane Picard could now concentrate fully on his bass playing. The third album Cybervoid was released in 1996 via ASA Records , a division of Cargo Records . After ASA went bankrupt, the band signed a contract with Hypnotic Records to release the album in Europe. The European version included a bonus song called Psychomatrix . At the beginning of the summer of 1998 the demo Whimsical Uproar was re-released via Soundscape Music to celebrate the band's tenth anniversary. In 1999 the album Carnivore Mothermouth followed . Due to the little success of the album, the band split in 2002 after playing their last concert on May 31st. In the same year, the best-of compilation Greatest Pits was released. In addition, all albums were re-released via Prodisk Records .

style

The first demo of the band is in Slayer - Fanzine described as "average Thrash Metal", while the second demo as "more or less cool technical Death Metal" is characterized. The band describes their music as "Cyber-Thrash-Metal".
