Paul Ehmke

Paul Ehmke ( Latinized Paulus Ehmke ; born March 2, 1893 in Danzig ; † July 14, 1973 ) was a German doctor and Freemason.

Life

Paul Ehmke received his doctorate in 1919 with a thesis on the results of Barth's frontal sinus surgery . From 1919 to 1920 he was further trained in the surgical clinic of the city hospital in Gdansk with Arthur Barth , where he later did specialist training with Heinrich Klose from 1937 to 1939 . Among other things, the writer Stanisława Przybyszewska (1901–1935), daughter of Stanisław Przybyszewskis born out of wedlock with the painter Aniela Pająkówna (1864–1912), was one of his patients in Danzig . He was appointed as a medical examiner at the Schichau shipyard . Ehmke, who was active in the medical professional association and on the board of the health insurance company, took over the management of the private surgical clinic in Danzig, which was known as the Lieksche Clinic, after completing his specialist training. In 1939 he was also elected director of the Natural Research Society in Gdansk at an extraordinary meeting , to which he was accepted in 1921.

After the Second World War he was employed as a doctor at the post office in Hanover and also worked as a general practitioner. He was also the local representative of the Federation of Danzig in Hanover . He left the German Society for Surgery on December 31, 1952.

Ehmke had been a Freemason since 1920, later an honorary member of fourteen Lodges in Lower Saxony, and was close to liberal political movements. As a Freemason, he was Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of Germany . Among other things, he was a member of the AASR , speaker of the German Supreme Council, co-founder of the Freemason Academy, which he headed for 15 years and of which he was honorary president. In Dransfeld he planned to set up a European grammar school. The “Paulus Ehmke” perfection lodge in Hanover was named after him.

From his marriage to Hedwig Ehmke, née Hafften, the art historian Ruth Schmitz-Ehmke , the politician Horst Ehmke and another daughter emerged. The biologist Adelheid Ehmke is a granddaughter .
