Adelheid D. Ehmke (born June 17, 1948 in Hanover ) is a German biologist and founding president of the European Platform of Women Scientists (EPWS) interest group .

Adelheid Ehmke is a granddaughter of the doctor and Freemason Paul Ehmke , her uncle was the politician Horst Ehmke .

From 1967 to 1971 she studied biology and philosophy at the Universities of Bonn and Cologne and then did her doctorate from 1973 to 1976 at the Pharmaceutical Institute of the University of Bonn, where she was employed as a research assistant. In the year of her doctorate, she switched to teaching (academic councilor) at the Technical University of Braunschweig , where she worked until 1998. During this time she was a founding member and vice-president of the “Transferkolleg Biotechnologie”. From 1994 to 1996 she was also Vice President of the TU. In 1998 she moved to the then Trier University of Applied Sciences and became its president until she became a professor for biotechnology at the University of Luxembourg in 2004, where she was also vice-rector until 2006.

Since 2006 she has been a member of the University Council of the TU Braunschweig.

Ehmke was involved in various scientific associations and organizations early on. From 2000 to 2002 she was President of the University Rectors 'Conference in Rhineland-Palatinate, and from 2002 to 2004 she was a member of the Federal German University Rectors' Conference . In 2005 she was co-founder and first president of the European Platform of Women Scientists EPWS. In addition, she sits on the Board of Trustees of Leuphana University Lüneburg .

criticism

In connection with the construction of the Audimax Lüneburg , Education Minister Gabriele Heinen-Kljajic reprimanded the Leuphana Board of Trustees, to which Ehmke is also a member, that he had not sufficiently performed his supervisory duties on the project, which was becoming more and more expensive.

In 2004 Ehmke was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany.
