Obtruncation is a Dutch death metal band from Dordrecht , which was founded in 1989, disbanded around 1991 and has been active again since 1998.

history

The band was founded in 1989 and consisted of the singer and guitarist Luc van Ravels, the drummer Martin Steigenga, the guitarist Frank Dronkers and the bassist Roeland Boot. With this line-up, the group recorded a first demo under the name Sanctum's Disruption in December 1990 , before it was released the following year. In 1991 Lawrence Payne joined the band as a singer. Van Ravels then concentrated on playing the electric guitar. Shortly thereafter, Boot left the group and was replaced by Arjan Meerkerk. In 1992 a second demo called the Sphere of the Rotting was released. Two of the five songs are included on a sampler from DSFA Records . In the summer of 1991 the group went on a small tour through Sicily . A few years later the band recorded twelve songs for a French label, but the band felt they were being treated unfairly by the label, which is why they broke up. A little later, the Dutch label Damnation Records became aware of the material, which was released as an album in 1997 under the name The Callous Concept . The band was re-founded in 1998 and consisted of the drummer Steigenga, the guitarist van Ravels, the singer Alex van den Heuvel, the bassist Marco Besjis and the guitarist Michel Wijngaard. In 2002 Tibor Lilkes was added as a replacement for Wijngaard and Anton Visser as the new singer. In 2007 Besjis passed away unexpectedly. Jay Dijkstra was added as a replacement. Bruno Bakker was also part of the line-up as the new guitarist for Lilkes. In 2014, the next album Abode of the Departed Souls was released via Vic Records .

style

According to Tobias Kreutzer from metal.de you can hardly make out a difference between the songs on Abode of the Departed Souls , as the speed is almost consistently high and the growls are not varied either. The group is one of the first death metal bands, but has never really made it out of the underground.
