Odeon Quadrille

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Odeon Quadrille is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 29). It was first performed on July 13, 1846 in a large dance hall called Odeon in Vienna's Leopoldstadt .

Remarks

The name of the Quadrille is derived from the location of the premiere. In Odeon initially had Johann Strauss (father) played for some time before he gave it up because of organizational problems. For the same reasons, his son rarely uses the location either. In 1848 the property fell victim to a fire as a result of the revolutionary events. It was no longer built. The Odeon Quadrille was then played rarely, if at all, and was forgotten. This was also due to the large number of such works by the composer, which displaced each other from the concert programs.

The playing time on the CD listed under itemization is 5 minutes and 17 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
