Odontosida magnificum is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of moth (Sphingidae).

features

The moths have a fore wing length of 21 to 25 millimeters. The body and the fore wings have a gray base color. The thorax and fore wings are vividly colored in various shades of brown. In the middle of the Costa loader there is a dark greenish-brown triangle. The hind wings are strong yellow at the base, the two outer thirds of the wing are reddish-brown and have a black spot near the tornus .

The caterpillars are similar to those of Batocnema africana . They are deep green and drawn pale blue on the back. A slanted blue stripe runs from the back of the fifth segment to the side of the fourth. Another slanted, blue stripe runs down from the anal horn to the ninth body segment. The bluish anal horn is erect. The head is triangular. The belly legs are green.

distribution and habitat

The species is distributed from South Africa to Zimbabwe and inhabits semi-arid landscapes such as the Karoo and Bushveld .

Way of life

The caterpillars feed on Dovyalis caffra ( Salicaceae ).
