Oedemera barbara is a beetle fromthe longhorn beetle family (Oedemeridae).
features
The beetles are 7-10 mm long and have a dark basic color. The golden to copper-colored shimmering wings are strongly narrowed towards the rear and gape apart. The tips of the wings are colored light brown. In contrast to the species Oedemera algerica , which occurs in Sicily and North Africa , the rear edge of the pronotum is narrowly colored yellow. The legs are colored bright red. The apical half of the femora of the two rear pairs of legs is dark in color. The posterior femora of the males are thickened in contrast to the females.
distribution
The distribution area of the beetle species extends from the Iberian Peninsula over the western and central Mediterranean area to Greece .
Way of life
The adults often sit on flowering plants where they eat pollen . The larvae develop in stems of herbaceous plants and feed on the plant tissue.
