Recreation area |
The Oedter See is an artificially created swimming lake in the west of the city of Traun in the Oedt district . It is part of a local recreation area that also includes an outdoor pool, an indoor pool with a sauna and an ice rink. Together with the Pichlinger See , the Oedter See represents a valuable leisure area in the Linz-Land district .
Oedter See then and now
Dredging began in 1960. The Oedter See was designed as a swimming lake from the start. Its area is about 99,000 m², the deepest point is about 6 meters below the water level. A paved path leads around the lake, parts of the south bank and the north bank are planted. There is a small floating platform a few hundred meters from the south bank.
Oedter See recreation area
In the summer months it attracts thousands of bathers despite its rather cool water temperature. In the cooler months it is a popular destination for walkers and joggers. The lake is also very popular with anglers, it contains many different types of fish (carp, perch, pike, reank, roach, pikeperch and many more). Despite its lower temperatures in summer, it rarely freezes over in contrast to Lake Pichling .
Around the lake
On the north bank is the bathing center with its indoor and outdoor pools, the sandy beach with seating steps, as well as the sauna and the ice rink. The water rescue building is located on the east bank. In the southeast there is a paddling pool and a buffet.
To the south of the lake, the Traun- Marchtrenk rail link runs past in a tunnel . An unpaved bike path leads along the railway line towards the Traun Bridge .
To the north of the lake there is a large car park for guests of the bathing center and the lake. In the summer months, however, the parking lot is usually much too small for the numerous bathers.
From the parking lot, an asphalt road, which is only open to pedestrians and cyclists, leads east of the lawn past the water rescue in the Au, where it joins the cycle path that accompanies the Traun. It is only a few meters from the confluence with the cycle path to the Traun-Pucking power station.
