Oei Tjie-sien

Oei Tjie-sien ( Chinese黄志信, Huáng Zhìxìn; * 1835 in Tongan , Fujian ; † 1909 ) was a Chinese entrepreneur in Indonesia and the father of Oei Tiong Ham .

Life

Oei Tjie-sien was an officer in Fujian . In 1858 he fled to Semarang , Indonesia after rebelling against the Qing Dynasty during the Taiping Uprising . In Semarang, he first worked in a shop with a Chinese boss, whose daughter he later married. Eight children were born from this relationship.

Services

In 1863, Oei Tjie-sien started a company called Kian-gwan Kongsi (建 源 公司, Jianyuan Gongsi). This company later became the first multinational conglomerate in Southeast Asia under the management of his son Oei Tiong Ham (黄仲涵, Huáng Zhònghán) .

He left a fortune of 17.5 million guilders and paved the way for the further success of his son Oei Tiong Ham , who at the time became the richest man in Southeast Asia.
