Oersted is an impact crater on the northeastern front of the moon . It is located southeast of the large Atlas crater . The crater is relatively inconspicuous as the rim of the crater is very heavily eroded and almost leveled.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the Danish physicist and chemist Hans Christian Ørsted .
