The Oestrich Castle was located on the Oestrich Castle Hill near Oestrich , a district of Iserlohn . The hilltop castle rose above the Lenne valley and was used by Dietrich von Altena-Isenberg as a base during the Isenberg turmoil in the 13th century.

The facility was built by the Isenberg family and consisted of two ring walls - west wall and east wall - and two straight walls - north wall and middle wall on an area of around 18 hectares. In the 13th century Dietrich built by Altena-Isenberg the castle into a stone castle with function keep out. The important parts were probably within the west wall.

Since the castle was no longer used after the Isenberg turmoil , the complex fell into disrepair. Remains of the ramparts can be seen on the plateau of the castle hill in several places in the forest. Remnants of the wall with the pass gate, which is known as the “sun hole” and facing exactly east, and the stump of the keep were lost after 1945 due to the limestone mining.

The site has been a listed building as a ground monument since 1986.
