Radio OKJ (rokj) is a community radio based in Jena . The radio project broadcasts on the FM frequency 103.40 MHz and is supported by the Thuringian State Media Authority.

Broadcasting

The programs broadcast on Radio OKJ come from the broadcasting studios of the central "Funkhaus" in the media center Schillerhof in Jena and from the broadcasting studios of the campus radio Jena in the Ernst Abbe University . Events are also broadcast live using mobile broadcast technology.

Radio OKJ offers 17 hours of its own program every day. The BBC Worldservice will be broadcast between midnight and 7 a.m.

Radio OKJ's broadcasts are broadcast across East Thuringia, but due to topographical conditions they cannot be received terrestrially everywhere. As a rule, the reception ranges in a west-east direction from Apolda to Eisenberg or Altenburg and in a north-south direction from the state border of Saxony-Anhalt to Orlamünde or Triptis .

Radio OKJ has three central tasks within the Thuringian Citizens Media Act: 1. free, equal and non-discriminatory access to broadcasting time for all citizens, 2. carrying out media education projects, 3. providing local information. The latter is ensured by an editorial team. Media education is in the hands of the RABATZ project. In addition, RADIO OKJ provides up to eight hours of open broadcasting space for volunteer radio producers. Radio OKJ also cooperates with other Thuringian citizen media and is organized in the Federal Association of Citizens Media.

Radio OKJ's program can be received via streaming on the Internet.

history

In 1998 the sponsoring association Offener Hörfunkkanal Jena eV was founded in Jena . In 1998 the sponsoring association received the broadcasting license for Thuringia's first association-supported local radio station. On March 13, 1999, the Jena Open Radio Channel began broadcasting. As a result, the involvement of voluntary radio producers quickly developed a full program that grew from 8 to 80 hours per week. In addition to operating as an open channel , the media educational project RABATZ was also developed at the station.

In September 2014, the Thuringian State Media Act decided to abandon the open channels and convert them to citizens' radios. Since then, the station has had its own editorial team , which publishes local and regional information. Since then, the editorial part of the program has been 6 hours a day.
