New officer career for army uniform wearers from 07/2020

history

The training of officers in the Bundeswehr has changed significantly since the troops were set up in 1955. Basically, the officer should be empowered military units and formations by principles of leadership to lead. He should also be able to train and educate soldiers. The focus here is on knowledge and practice of methods and didactics of the training he has given, as well as in-depth knowledge of military law .

University studies have also been an integral part of training since 1973. Since 2006 it has been possible to join the armed forces as an officer candidate after just 15 months of service. For example, training in a career as a troop service in the army has been carried out in one of the two officer candidate battalions since then . There the officer candidates (OA) go through a six-month officer candidate course. This is followed by "Officer Course 1" (OL1) at the Army Officer School and, as a rule, studies at a university of the German Armed Forces . With the rank of lieutenant or first lieutenant , the "Officer Course 2" at the Army Officer School and the "Officer Course 3" at the military schools of the respective military type , as well as the necessary driver's license courses, lone fighter courses or the course "Survival in action" follow after studying .

Example army

From 2020: The recruited officer candidate completes the AGA (general basic training) (3 months) in one of 34 basic training companies. All careers go through this together. This is followed by post training in the core unit (3 months). This is followed by the Fahnenjunker course at a training facility for the military branch (6 months). At the Army Officer School (OSH), the module "Army Coining" with basic and leadership internship (3 months) takes place. At one of the universities of the German Armed Forces, students now study four years in trimesters. The officer’s course at the OSH (4 months) follows the course. After passing the train driver course in a training facility of the military type, the first use takes place in a service post in the main troop section.

In the past: For a long time, officer training lasted three years, consisting of officer candidate course (OAL) 1 and 2 at the respective military schools (e.g. tank troops or artillery ), internships in the troops and the six-month officer course at the army officer school . After that, the lieutenants began studying at the universities of the Bundeswehr.
