Triton Knoll is a planned offshore wind farm in the EEZ of the United Kingdom in the North Sea . The wind farm will have an installed capacity of 855 megawatts (MW). The final investment decision was made on August 31, 2018. The start of construction at sea is specified as 2020 and the commissioning period as 2021 to 2022 . A total of 90 wind turbines of the type MHI Vestas V164 with a nominal output of 9.5 MW each are to be used.
The offshore wind farm was developed by innogy (now RWE). It is located off the Lincolnshire coast . The investment volume is given at 2 billion British pounds.
development
In September 2017, the tender for the electricity tariff (so-called Contract for Difference ) was won with 74.75 British pounds per megawatt hour.
The Triton Knoll offshore wind farm had to contend with problems from the start. Co-investor Statkraft withdrew from the project as early as 2015. The then RWE subsidiary innogy has been developing the project independently since then. In August 2018 innogy announced that the final investment decision had been made. On August 13, 2018 innogy announced that it had found two more investors. The Japanese company J-Power has a 25% stake and the Japanese company Kansai Electric Power has a 16% stake.
The total equity of the project company amounts to EUR 250 million.
As part of the swap between RWE and E.On, all of the generating facilities are owned and operated by RWE. The consequence of this is that innogy's 59% stake in Triton Knoll will also be transferred to RWE. The swap of the generating plants was completed in September 2019.
power
The wind farm is to have a total capacity of 860 MW. It will consist of a total of 90 MHI Vestas V164 wind turbines, each with an output of 9.5 MW, and will be connected to the Siemens grid. It is estimated that enough electricity can be produced for 800,000 UK households per year.
Installation
The commissioning of the first systems is planned for 2021.
