The Groß Born military training area is located southwest of Neustettin near Groß Born (now Polish: Borne Sulinowo) on Lake Pielburg in Western Pomerania . The Groß Born military training area was one of the largest and most modern military training areas in the German Reich.

history

The military training area was built in 1919 by the Reichswehr for the training of their artillery soldiers. The places Groß Born (the old Groß Born was south of today's Groß Born), Knacksee and Plietnitz were cleared for the establishment of the military training area. Today's Groß Born is located on the site of the then newly established Groß Born military settlement. There were two large barracks at the site , the Groß Born barracks area and the Westfalenhof barracks area (today Kłomino ). The German Africa Corps was set up in Groß Born . Officer's camp II D was located on the site from 1939 to 1945 .

In the Battle of East Pomerania , the Red Army captured the military training area. From 1945 the military training area, renamed Borne Sulinowo, was the headquarters of the following units of the Red Army: from 1945 the 38th Guard Armored Division , from 1965 the 90th Guard Armored Division , from 1985 the 6th Motorized Guard Rifle Division . After the withdrawal of the armed forces of Russia (the former Soviet army ), the site was handed over to the Third Polish Republic in 1993 .
