Ogerio Alfieri came from a first time in 1149 mentioned in a document family , in Asti, one in the northern Italian region of Piedmont , was located nearby community. Its representatives, especially the wealthy merchants and landowners Guglielmo and Alferio Alfieri, belonged to the political elite of Asti in the first half of the 13th century. Ogerio Alfieri, a descendant of Alferio Alfieri, actively managed his large family fortune and after 1277 played an important role in the politics of his home community, which he actively helped shape. In 1292 he was one of the four Savi (wise men) who were responsible for handling all communal affairs of Asti.

Ogerio Alfieri was probably archivist of Asti in 1292; In any case, he recommended at the time to the Podestà Guglielmo Lambertini that all files and documents on which the rights of the municipality were based should be combined into one collection. Alfieri created such a compilation himself. It forms the main part of the Codex Astensis , which is preceded by an overview of the historical events of Asti written by Alfieri. This short chronicle, written in Latin, starts with the legendary ancient beginnings of the city and lasts until April 18, 1294. Not long afterwards, Alfieri is likely to have died. Guglielmo Ventura included his chronicle together with the history of the city of Astis, which dates back to 1325, in the 11th volume of Muratori's large collection, Rerum Italicarum Scriptores , published in 1727 .
