Okalea
Okalea ( ancient Greek Ὠκαλέα or Ὠκάλεια ; Latin form Ocalea ) was an ancient Greek city. It was located in central Boeotia and was under the city of Haliartus .
The city was already mentioned in the ship catalog in the Iliad . Okalea was on the river of the same name between Haliartos and Alalkomenai and was 30 stadiums - about 5.5 kilometers - away from both cities. Rhadamanthys is said to have lived here after he had married Alkmene , the widow of Amphitryon . Here he is said to have taught Heracles how to use the bow. In the Homeric Hymns Okalea is described as fortified with towers.
The exact location of the city has not yet been clearly clarified. It was near the present-day places Petra and Ypsilantis . John M. Fossey assumed that Okalea was south of the Evangelistra monastery.
