The Ocular Hypertension , English ocular hypertension is defined as a sole increase in the intraocular pressure without proven ( glaucomatous ) damage to the eye, the nerve fiber layer of the retina , the optic nerve head or optic nerve.

The increased intraocular pressure is an important risk factor for the development of glaucoma .

Pressure-lowering treatment of increased intraocular pressure significantly lowers the frequency of the development of glaucoma and is therefore a useful preventive measure.
