Ola Billgren (born January 5, 1940 - November 4, 2001 ) was a Swedish artist and art theorist. His works can be seen in the Musée National d'Art Moderne ( Center Georges-Pompidou ) in Paris and in the Moderna Museet in Stockholm.
Career
After the early years of informal art , Billgren was influenced by neorealism and photorealism in the 1960s , but not entirely without introducing abstract elements. Then he also had his breakthrough.
After the mid-1970s he switched to what appeared to be traditional landscape painting, in which he dealt with a deconstruction of the conventions of romantic painting.
Later he also explored the possibilities of colors and light in abstract paintings. In the 1990s he presented a series of paintings with red surfaces that initially convey something abstract before the underlying pictorial spaces slowly reveal themselves, like “suppressed figurations”.
