Olav Ehala (born July 31, 1950 in Tallinn , Estonian SSR ) is an Estonian composer and pianist .

life and work

Olav Ehala completed his composition studies with Eugen Kapp at the Tallinn State Conservatory (now the Estonian Academy of Music and Theater ). From 1970 to 1991 he was employed in the Estonian Youth Theater ( Estonian Eesti Noorsooteater ), from 1975 as its musical director. Ehala has been a teacher at the Estonian Academy of Music since 1991, since 1998 with the title of Lecturer.

Olav Ehala has become known as a pianist both in Estonia and internationally. He has also composed numerous instrumentals, songs, songs and stage music. Ehala has received numerous prizes, especially for his film music for puppet and cartoon films. The musicals Sabata krokodill (1972), Oliver ja Jennifer (1972), Burattino (1975), Johnny (1980), Thijl Ulenspiegel (1987) and Nukitsamees (1999) also attracted attention . Ehala has been chairman of the Estonian Composers' Union ( Eesti Heliloojate Liit ) since 2006 .
