Oldřich J. Blažíček

Oldřich Jakub Blažíček (born November 8, 1914 in Prague , † June 28, 1985 in Munich ) was a Czech art historian .

Life

He was the son of the painter Oldřich Blažíček (1887–1953). After attending grammar school in Prague until 1932, he studied art history and classical archeology at Charles University in Prague from 1933 and received his doctorate in 1938 under Antonín Matějček . During the Second World War he was the head of the library at the Museum of Applied Arts in Prague. From 1945 to 1947 he was an assistant at the Charles University in Prague. He received his habilitation there in 1947 and taught as an associate professor for art history until he was forced to leave the university for political reasons in 1951. He then worked as a scientist at the National Culture Commission and from 1952 to 1958 as head of the Department for the Management of State Monuments, from 1958 to 1965 as head of the State Institute for the Preservation of Monuments and Nature Conservation. From 1966 until his death he was a research assistant at the National Gallery in Prague.

His specialty was the art of the baroque in Bohemia .
