The churchyard gate is classified separately as a Category A monument, while the surrounding cemetery is classified as a Category C structure.
history
Construction of what is now the Old Parish Church of Longside as the parish church of the newly established Parish began in 1619 and was completed the following year. After the construction of today's Longside Parish Church in 1835, the redundant church became obsolete. In 1892 it was no longer considered. Today the building is only preserved as a ruin.
description
The internal dimensions of the elongated quarry stone building are 22.2 m and 6.8 m. The masonry is 90 cm thick. The building stands on a small, grassy hill that has been suggested to be a medieval moth . On the west gable sits a small ridge turret with cornices and a pyramid roof . Below is the arched main portal. In a Gothic recess on the north flank is a commemorative plaque made around 1400 for the fourth laird of Brux .
The arched cemetery gate was possibly built during the construction of the church. The cornice once had a sundial . The final sphere shows the year 1705. However, it is assumed that this does not correspond to the year of construction. A quarry stone wall encloses the surrounding cemetery. There are tombstones from the 18th century and an obelisk .
