The Olex-Haus is a listed administrative building on Dominicusstrasse in the Schöneberg district of Berlin . The building was built in 1915/1916 as an administration building for the OLEX-Petroleum-Gesellschaft (today: DEA ). The state of Berlin is now the owner; it houses the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Enterprises and parts of the LKA Berlin . It takes its name from the stock corporation for Austrian and Hungarian mineral oil products (Olex), which was connected to DEA and had its Berlin headquarters and sales department in this building. The baroque -style house is made of brick and clad with natural stone.

history

Olex submitted the first planning application in March 1915 and construction work by Union Baugesellschaft began in December 1915. The plans came from the Berlin architects' office of Richard Bielenberg and Josef Moser . The architecture firm was a leader in Berlin and designed, among other things, the Tauentzienpalast , the Deutschlandhaus and the current buildings of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the Deutsche Guggenheim and the Bavarian State Representation in Berlin.

After some rescheduling, the building was finished in May 1921. In 1922 one of the first gas stations in Germany was built next to the Olex house. Until then, petrol was sold either in drugstores or at individual petrol pumps. Olex was the first to develop a concept with several fuel pumps and the associated safety measures.

The building remained in the possession of the DEA until 1956. A tax office moved in immediately after the Second World War . In 1956, the DEA transferred the entire building to the State of Berlin, and the Senator for Economics and Credit moved from Potsdamer Strasse to the building right next to Schöneberg Town Hall .
