Oliver (singer)
William Oliver Swofford (born February 22, 1945 in North Wilkesboro , North Carolina , † February 12, 2000 in Shreveport ) was an American pop singer who was best known under the name of Oliver with the song Good Morning Starshine from the musical Hair .
He started his musical career in a band called "Good Earth". With the song Good Morning Starshine, which Galt MacDermot composed in 1968 for the musical Hair , he achieved his first solo hit in the spring of 1969, which was to become an evergreen . The record reached number 3 on the US charts and came to number 6 in England .
The successor single Jean was also a million seller in the USA , but thereafter no further success.
Oliver died of cancer at the age of 54.
