Oliver Bell
Oliver Bell (born March 29, 1958 in Cologne ) is a manager in the metal industry . He has been the interim CEO of Aludium since May 1, 2019 . From 2015 to 2016 he held this position at Deutsche Edelstahlwerke (DEW).
Career
After training as a banker , Bell began studying business administration at the University of Cologne in 1979 , which he graduated with a diploma in 1985. In August 1985 he started his professional career in auditing and internal management consultancy at VIAG AG in Bonn.
From 1989 he took on various management tasks at the VIAG subsidiary VAW Aluminum AG and its subsidiaries in Europe and the USA .
In 2000, the VIAG AG merged with the VEBA Group for E.ON . In 2002 Norsk Hydro ASA from Oslo , Norway , finally took over the German VAW Aluminum AG from E.ON, a company with a long tradition in the German metal industry at the time. Norsk Hydro ASA is the largest aluminum group in Europe and employs 13,000 people in 50 countries worldwide.
In the course of the takeover, he switched to Norsk Hydro ASA, where he was initially responsible for the automotive, construction, packaging and technical applications business units from Grevenbroich as business unit manager within the Rolled Products division.
In June 2007 he was appointed President Rolled Products. On March 30, 2009, he was finally appointed to the board of Norsk Hydro ASA. He was the first German board member of the group, headed the global Rolled Products division as Executive Vice President and since 2009 has been chairman of the supervisory boards of the two largest German Hydro subsidiaries Hydro Aluminum Rolled Products GmbH and Hydro Aluminum Deutschland GmbH, both based in Grevenbroich until he left the company at the end of 2014.
Association activity
Bell has been President of WirtschaftsVereinigung Metalle (WVM) since January 1, 2013. When he switched to the steel industry, he initially suspended his association mandates for the non-ferrous metal industry and then gave them up. Harald Kroener became the new President of WVM.
