Oliver Dimbath
Oliver Dimbath (born September 20, 1968 , in Starnberg , Bavaria ) is a German sociologist and university professor .
biography
Dimbath first studied business administration at the Munich University of Applied Sciences and then sociology , social psychology, and social and economic history at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, where he obtained a doctorate in sociology in 2002. rer. pole. received his doctorate . From 2003 to 2017 he was initially employed as a research assistant, then as an academic councilor or senior councilor at the chair for general sociology at the Philosophical and Social Sciences Faculty of the University of Augsburg . He completed his habilitation there in 2012. After substituting professorships at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal and the Ludwig Maximilians University, he has been Professor of Sociology at the University of Koblenz-Landau since 2017, succeeding Clemens Albrecht .
research
As a member of the Collaborative Research Center 536 'Reflexive Modernization', Dimbath initially dealt with the social conditions of individual decisions in connection with the career choice of school leavers, and then turned to questions of science research. In addition to work on the sociological reflection of the theoretical genre of contemporary or contemporary diagnostics, he is now working on the introduction of the terms 'memory', 'remembering' and 'forgetting' into the (knowledge) sociological discussion. In addition, he is committed to the further development of qualitative methods of empirical social research, particularly in the field of visual sociology and film sociology, with various topics. He is co-editor of the book series' Social Memory, Erinnern und Vergessen - Memory Studies' (Springer VS) and 'Sociology in the 21st Century (Fink (UTB)).
