Oliver Knott

Oliver Knott (* 1972 in Karlsruhe ) is a German aquascaper , aquarium designer and author. He holds international lectures and workshops and designs aquarium layouts and show aquariums for zoos, trade fairs, business premises and private rooms.

Life

In 1988, at the age of 16, Knott began an apprenticeship as a retail salesman in the pet shop with a focus on aquaristics , which he successfully completed in 1991. Until 1993 he worked in Karlsruhe as a retail salesman in a pet shop and until 1995 as a department manager at the same specialist chain in Albstadt. In 1994 Knott discovered the first book by Takashi Amano and began to familiarize himself with the field of plant aquariums. Until 1998 Knott was assistant to the branch manager of a pet shop in Karlsruhe, and from 1998 to 2001 he held the position of operations manager in the pet shop also in Karlsruhe. In 1999 he first came into personal contact with the "father of the natural aquarium " Takashi Amano. Knott was the first dealer to bring Takashi Amano's products to Germany in 1999, and he was one of the first aquarists in Germany to take a closer look at the Japanese style in aquascaping and the natural aquarium, which was influenced by Takashi Amano. This created a professional and personal connection between Knott and Amano, and they met several times in person. In 2001, Knott started his own business as an aquarium designer and consultant.

Aquascaping

Oliver Knott successfully took part in various aquarium layout competitions, including the AGA Contest 2004 (overall winner), the AGA 2005 (first place and crowd favorite) and the IAPLC (10th place) 2005.
