Olivier Roussey
Olivier Roussey (born November 18, 1958 in Trier ) is a former French football player .
Career
Failure in two first division clubs (until 1979)
The 178 centimeter tall defender Roussey began playing football at AS Mazargues in Marseille , from where he and his younger brother Laurent Roussey (* 1961) made the jump to the youth department of the first division club AS Saint-Étienne . In this he took a regular place in the third-rate playing reserve team in the 1977/78 season, while his brother became a professional at the age of only 16 and gained notoriety as the youngest goalscorer in league history. But Olivier was also able to convince with his performances, so that he got his chance in the professional team towards the end of the season and made his debut in the national league on April 8, 1978, when he was in the starting line-up in a 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain .
His first division debut, however, by no means meant the breakthrough, as he was only allowed to play for the second team in the following season 1978/79. In the summer of 1979 he was handed over to the first division rivals Olympique Lyon and was allowed to take part in a top-class game on a test basis, but had no serious prospects in the team. This led to the fact that he turned his back on the club again during the 1979/80 winter break and signed with the second division club LB Châteauroux .
Breakthrough at Châteauroux (1980–1983)
Even with the club LB Châteauroux, which was a league lower, it initially looked as if Roussey would not play a role. This changed in the course of the 1980/81 season, he came to more and more regular missions and finally fought for a regular place. The team finished this event in the upper third of the table, whereas the following year was marked by the relegation battle and the fall into the third division could only just be averted. In the 1982/83 season the team was able to improve a bit, but the defensive department remained very vulnerable with 55 goals conceded. Despite everything, Roussey aroused the interest of the first division club FC Toulouse , which brought him to him in the summer of 1983.
Unsuccessful return to the first division (1983–1986)
Although he was planned to be part of the professional squad in Toulouse, apart from two cup matches, he only played in the reserve team and thus missed the hoped-for comeback in the first division. In 1985 he found a new employer in the first division competitor Olympique Marseille , but found a similar situation there and played only one cup game for the professional team. At the end of the 1985/86 season, the then 27-year-old left the club, which after two first division games without a goal and 74 second division games with one goal meant the final end of his professional career.
Further work (after 1986)
With his departure in Marseille, he moved to the lower class club CS Meaux before he finally gave up playing football in 1987. Nevertheless, he stayed in this sport, as he worked as such for various professional clubs after completing his training as a physiotherapist .
