Olivier Theobald (pseudonym for Olivier Thiébaud ; born December 17, 1960 in Payerne ) is a Swiss writer and musician .

Life

Theobald spent his childhood and youth in Payerne, studied German, Latin and Romance languages ​​at the University of Lausanne . He graduated in 1985 with a licentiate thesis on the subject of Hermann Löns as a poet . Since 1981 he has been teaching German at the École professionnelle commerciale de Lausanne (EPCL) and has been a lecturer in German at the Haute Ecole d'Ingénierie et de Gestion du Canton de Vaud (HEIG-VD) in Yverdon since 1987 .

Theobald writes poems and plays in his native German, often bizarre content, but also natural poetry. Since 2011 he has been a member of the “Poets' Circle Hunting Lyric in the BJV”. His piece Rausch an der Leine about the poet Hermann Löns was premiered in Walsrode (Lower Saxony) in 2000 on the occasion of the world exhibition in Hanover.

Theobald's poems have been published in more than twenty anthologies, in newspapers and magazines in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Theobald has been playing jazz and blues on the piano in the manner of Fats Waller and James P. Johnson since his youth . In his readings, Theobald likes to move from poetry to music and from swing of the thirties back to poems about today's world.

Theobald lives in Puidoux on Lake Geneva.
