The Olle Borg is a hill fort in Wocklum near Balve in the Märkisches Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia . The castle complex probably dates from the Ottonian period.

description

The hilltop castle is located east of Balve, about 700 m from Wocklum Castle. It lies on the castle hill. This is about 350 m high and towers over the area. The Wallburg is located on the flat hilltop. Wall and moat systems exist in the south, west and east. In the steep north these were not necessary. The center of the castle is about 140 × 80 m. It was protected by a 5.30 m high wall with a trench in front of it . In front of it, another wall with a ditch rises up at a different distance of about 30 to 80 m. The facility ends on steep slopes.

Another wall with a ditch about 350 m long is in front of it in the southeast, deeper on the slope of the mountain. In the south and east, heavily secured pincer gates form the access in the inner and middle wall. The entrance is protected by curved walls made of mortar stones.

The mountain peak with the core area of the facility is located in the Burgberg Wocklum nature reserve .

Dating

The dating of the plant is uncertain. The older research held them to be Carolingian . Philipp R. Hömberg saw in it a system from the 10th or even 11th century.
