Oman News Agency

The Oman News Agency (ONA; Arabic وكالة الأنباء العمانية, DMG Wakālat al-Anbāʾ al-ʿumāniyya ) is the official news agency of the Sultanate of Oman . It is based in Ruwi and reports to the Omani Ministry of Information. The agency publishes daily reports in Arabic and English .

History of origin

The ONA was founded on May 29, 1986 by Decree No. 39/86. On June 25, 1997, Decree No. 43/97 established the Oman Establishment for Press, News, Publication and Advertising (OEPNPA) , of which it became a part. By Decree No. 75/2006, the agency was placed under the supervision of the Omani Ministry of Information on June 16, 2006 and is directly subordinate to the Minister of Information.

The ONA is the official news agency of the Omani government and distributes news from the different parts of the country daily from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. the following day. It also publishes news about news abroad.

The agency is currently headed by General Director and Editor-in-Chief Zamzam Suliman Al Rashdi . The ONA consists of the following departments:

  • ONA branch in Dhofar Governorate in the south of the Sultanate of Oman .

Memberships

The ONA is a member of the Organization of Arab News Agencies (FANA) , the International Islamic News Agency (an agency of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation ) and the Organization of Asia Pacific News Agencies (OANA) . The agency also attends the Gulf Cooperation Council's Annual News Agencies Conference.
