Società Geologica Italiana

The Società Geologica Italiana is an Italian scientific society based at La Sapienza University in Rome . The "Italian Geological Society" promotes geological research and public interest in geology and geosciences .

The non-profit organization was founded at the proposal of the scientist and politician Quintino Sella at the second international geological congress in Bologna in 1881 . From 1882 to 2010 she published the Bollettino della Società Geologica Italiana , which was then merged with the Bollettino del Servizio Geologico d'Italia, founded in 1870, to form the Italian Journal of Geosciences . In 1988 the company was among the founders of the Commissione italiana di stratigrafia , which coordinates Italian activities in the field of stratigraphy .

The Society awards a series of prizes for special scientific achievements, named after the Italian geologists Secondo Franchi , Giorgio Dal Piaz , Quintino Sella, Giovanni Capellini and Raimondo Selli .

President

There was no president for 1968 as the incumbent resigned. Due to World War II, there was no president in 1944 (and the presidents for 1942/43 were suspended).
