Omar Lafluf

Omar Lafluf Hebeich (born July 3, 1954 in Young ) is a Uruguayan politician .

Education and private matters

The path of his school education led through the Escuela No. 17 "Domingo de Arce" , as well as the high schools of Young and Paysandú. In the latter, he prepared for his subsequent studies at the Universidad de la República (UdelaR) as part of a bachelor's degree , which he began in 1974 at the veterinary faculty. After successfully completing his studies in 1981 with a doctorate, he then worked as a veterinarian until 1999 and later at the organizational level in the Young Agricultural Cooperative ( Cooperativa Agraria de Young , CADYL). As part of his work there, he spent six months in 1984 in Sweden for advanced training in the field of animal breeding. From 2000 to 2005 he then held the position of general manager of the Salto Agricultural Cooperative ( Cooperativa Agraria de Salto , Calsal).

Lafluf, the fifth son of Pedro Lafluf and Margarita Hebeich in the Uruguayan town of Young, has been married to Adriana Berezán since 1982 . The two sons Yesabel and Pedro Ignacio come from this marriage . The supporter of Club Atlético Peñarol has also appeared repeatedly in the past as a sponsor of the Ferrocarril Fútbol Club .

Political career

Lafluf, who has been politically active since 1971 both in his party's youth organization and in the Movimiento Por la Patria , is a member of the Partido Nacional . In 1994 and 2000 he made two unsuccessful attempts to be elected Intendente of Río Negro . In the parliamentary elections on October 31, 2004 , he succeeded in moving into the Cámara de Representantes as a member , where he then took his place in the 46th legislative period from February 15 of the following year. As part of his parliamentary work, he was the initiator of two important projects. This included the establishment of a parliamentary committee on the departmental level of government and decentralization. In the local elections in May 2005 , he made another attempt to obtain the post of Intendente of Río Negro, which this time was crowned with success. After he resigned at the beginning of February 2010 in preparation for his renewed candidacy and Ruben Di Giovanni took over his position on February 2, he was confirmed in office on May 9, 2010 for a further electoral period until 2015. He has also been the incumbent president of the Uruguayan Congress of Directors since July 16, 2010.
