Omar Sheika

Omar Sheika (born February 20, 1977 ) is a former American professional boxer from Paterson , New Jersey .

Born in the United States as the son of Palestinian immigrants, the left-wing extremist was American junior champion in 1994 and American middleweight champion in 1996. He was also a participant in the 1994 Junior World Championships in Istanbul and was voted amateur boxer of the year by the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame in 1995.

In 1997 he became a professional and stayed that way until 2012. After 21 fights with victories against, among others, Simon Brown and Glen Johnson , he boxed for the WBO World Super Middleweight Championship, but lost to Joe Calzaghe in August 2000 . Due to constant follow-up performances he received another World Cup chance in September 2002, this time for the WBC title, but lost on points against Eric Lucas .

After a mixed fight time with six wins (including against James Butler ) and four defeats, he boxed for the IBF World Championship against Jeff Lacy in December 2004 , but he was defeated on points. He also lost another WBC World Championship fight in Berlin in September 2005 by deciding on points against Markus Beyer . He suffered two more defeats in his professional career in 2009 against Roy Jones junior and in 2010 against Adrian Diaconu .

His professional balance is 32 wins (21 knockout) and 12 losses (4 knockout).
