Omnibusverkehr Melchinger GmbH , based in Aichtal in the Esslingen district, operates as a private bus company in regular services.

history

After the end of the war in 1945, Eugen Melchinger set up a bus route from Nürtingen to Degerloch . In 1947 a line followed from Grötzingen to Stuttgart ( Old Castle ), which was extended to Neuenhaus in 1948 .

From 1952 Melchinger also made trips to other European countries.

In 1976 Gisela Melchinger took over the business from her father.

In the course of the full integration of the Esslingen district into the VVS on October 1, 1993, line 809 from Neuenhaus via Bernhausen to Stuttgart (central bus station) had to be shortened to Degerloch. As a compensation service, the SSB awarded contract trips on line 36 to Melchinger.

With the timetable change in December 2013, line 809 from Neuenhaus to Bernhausen was shortened. Melchinger operated the section between Bernhausen, Fasanenhof Ost and Degerloch under the new route number 806.

On January 1, 2015, Gisela Melchinger and Andreas Melchinger, who runs the Aichtal-Reisen company taken over from his father Dieter Melchinger , founded the new company Omnibusverkehr Melchinger GmbH . At the end of 2016, Gisela Melchinger retired from management at the age of 72. Today the company is run by Andreas Melchinger and his wife Babette Melchinger.

Tendering of the scheduled services

As a result of EU regulation 1370/2007 , the Esslingen district wrote out the bus routes in the district from 2015 in several bundles. The former SSB 30 bus routes in the Filderstadt and Leinfelden-Echterdingen area were awarded to the DB subsidiary FMO on December 1, 2018 . As a subcontractor, this company commissioned Melchinger with 35 percent of the mileage.

On December 1, 2019, Omnibus Melchinger was awarded the contract for routes 167, 805, 808, 808a, 809, 809a and N89. As of January 1, 2019, Melchinger was operating temporarily on bus route 75 (now 805), as this, like the 30 routes, ran completely outside the Stuttgart city area and was therefore handed over by the SSB and advertised by the Esslingen district.

After taking over the new lines in December 2018, there were numerous complaints. Failures and delays, outdated and unsafe buses as well as unfriendly drivers with a lack of local and language skills were a constant topic in the regional press, and the RTL television station also reported on the situation at Melchinger in December 2019.
