Onboard courier
Onboard couriers (also referred to as OBC = On Board Courier , Flugkurier or Hand Carry Courier ) accompany urgent shipments that require personal monitoring during the entire transport. For example, urgent spare parts , sensitive samples or sensitive documents are collected directly from the sender and brought to the respective destination on the next available flight.
particularities
An onboard courier guarantees safe transport through personal monitoring. Since the consignment is not transported by a classic freighter but on board a passenger plane, this type of transport enables maximum speed.
Areas of application
Onboard courier services are usually offered by specialized logistics service providers and therefore form a sub-area of emergency logistics. The possible uses are very diverse depending on the industry:
- Automobile industry : Automobile manufacturers and suppliers usually rely on standardized processes and just-in-time production in order to produce as efficiently as possible. If there is an unexpected lack of material or an urgently needed spare part, an onboard courier can save valuable time and avoid or at least reduce downtime costs accordingly.
- Aviation and aerospace industry : If an aircraft cannot be used as planned for technical reasons ( AOG = Aircraft on Ground ), the airline incurs high costs due to the failure. An onboard courier can transport the required spare part to the location of the defective aircraft so that it can be repaired as quickly as possible.
- Sending documents: Sensitive documents, such as contract documents or passports, cannot always be sent by post for security reasons. If confidential documents require permanent monitoring, an onboard courier can guarantee maximum security.
- Fashion industry: Textile logistics plays an important role, especially at fashion shows , because haute couture pieces can often only be completed at short notice and then have to be transported to the event promptly.
- Transplant medicine : some donor organs are transported by OBC to the patient to whom the organ is to be inserted.
