Ondřej Trojan (born December 31, 1959 in Prague ) is a Czech film producer and director.

Life

Trojan comes from his family of actors: his father is the actor Ladislav Trojan (* 1932) and Trojan's younger brother Ivan Trojan was also known as an actor. After finishing school in 1979, Trojan first studied education with a focus on math and physics at the Charles University in Prague , but dropped out after about four years. He concentrated on the theater, played Divadle Sklep in the theater and finally came to film on the advice of colleagues. Trojan initially worked as a prop master for two years at Studio Barrandov and finally studied film and television directing from 1985 to 1991 at the Film and TV Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts .

He made his debut as a director in 1991 with the youth comedy Pějme píseň dohola , which he had shot during his studies. He cast the then 13-year-old Anna Geislerová , whose discoverer he is considered, in the role of Tráva. In the following year he founded the film production company HelpArt THA Trojan with Tomáš Hanák and Jiří Fero Burda, with whom he had played at Divadle Sklep , and with HelpArt THA in 2000, Jan Hřebejk's film We Must Stick Together , which won an Oscar in the category Best Foreign Language in 2001 Film was nominated, as well as other films by Hřebejk (including Kuschelnester , Pupendo , Horem pádem ). Ondrej's second feature film, Zelary, based on a story by Květa Legátová , which he directed and co-produced, also received an Oscar nomination in the Best Foreign Language Film category . Occasionally, Trojan also appears in front of the camera as an actor.
