One night genius

One Night Genius (Thai อัจฉริยะ ข้าม คืน , RTGS : Atchariya Khamkhuen ) was a series of 90-minute game shows that were broadcast from July 2006 to January 2008 by the Thai television station Kanal 3 . Every week eight participants (all academics ) from eight different departments competed against each other individually or in small groups under time pressure . The winner received one million baht (about 30,000 euros).

One round was completely completed in each broadcast, so that new candidates were presented in the next broadcast. The competition, which consisted of several disciplines and in which an elimination process took place, consisted of constantly changing tasks (puzzles, memory tests , practical tasks, games of skill , logic tests and the like). The tasks were solved exclusively by collective intelligence ; therefore only one group won at a time.

The television show was based on an idea from Rungtham Phumsinil, who was also its executive producer . It was moderated by Panya Nirunkul and Tankhun Jitissara . The production company was Workpoint Entertainment . It was first broadcast on July 3, 2006.

Before the start of the competition

  • The competitors, each called "genius", receive a rucksack ( lifesaving bag ) from the host. This contains, among other things, provisions, tools, writing materials, consumables, mobile phones and, if necessary, mission-specific material.

Mission one

  • The first qualification is divided into two parts:
    • The individual qualification consists of 20 questions that must be solved alone and without help. The two worst are always eliminated for mission 2 and 3.
    • The group task (groups of two) consists of a task of the same type for all teams, e.g. B. 24-part memory game whose playing field is rotated if necessary.

Mission two

  • This second qualification is also divided into two parts:
    • The individual qualification must now be solved by six participants, e.g. B. building a Jenga tower, etc. The four winners advance to the next round.
    • In the group task (groups of three), a task of the same type has to be solved for all teams, one team is always eliminated.

Mission three

  • The remaining four participants must individually solve a puzzle using their equipment. One question arises here.
    • The first two participants to give the answer first take part in the final round.
