One Pound Gospel ( Japanese 1 ポ ン ド の 福音 , Ichi-pondo no fukuin ) is a manga series by the Japanese illustrator Rumiko Takahashi . The manga combines topics from sports , romance and comedy and was also implemented as an anime and dorama .

action

Kosaku Hatanaka is a boxer from the Mukaida boxing studio. He's a sporty natural, but he can't control his insatiable appetite. As a result, he gains weight and has to fight in higher weight classes for which he is not trained. In these fights he has to accept more and more defeats.

Sister Angela, a young novice at the nearby nunnery , is determined to fight Cossack's urge to glutton and get him back on track. She therefore constantly encourages him to stay in shape. Unfortunately, their constant closeness also brings affection.

Manga

One-Pound Gospel has appeared sporadically in Japan since 1987 in individual chapters in the Shogakukan Manga magazine Young Sunday ; the last chapters were published in 2001. The individual chapters created up to and including 1996 have also been summarized in three edited volumes. The last anthology was published in Japan in 2007.

The series in the magazine was in English Animerica by Viz Media published. She also appeared in Spanish on Planeta DeAgostini Comics.

Egmont published all four volumes in German between December 2004 and September 2008.

Anime

Based on the manga series, the Gallop studio produced a one-part, about 50-minute anime OVA of the same name in 1989 . This was directed by Makura Saki, the character design was created by Katsumi Aoshima.

Dorama

From January 2008 to March 2008, a live action series on One Pound Gospel with Kazuya Kamenashi as Kosaku Hatanaka was broadcast on NTV.
