Oneview was a German and English language application for social bookmarking . The platform was launched in 1998 by the multimedia agency denkwerk and is therefore one of the first providers of social bookmarking worldwide. In 2005 the assets of the old oneview AG were bought by the founders Carl-Marcus Rudert, Guido Kaltwasser and Rene Kaute and the concept developed into one of the largest social bookmarking platforms and human search engines in Germany in the following years. Oneview was repositioned in August 2012 and at the same time dw capital (CEO: Axel Schmiegelow ) relaunched both the German and English-speaking platforms. According to its own information, the platform has a collection of over 50 million bookmarks from its members (as of September 2012).
Functions
With the repositioning of Oneview in 2005, the original online bookmarking service was transformed into a social bookmarking platform with a network of friends and links to social networks such as Twitter and Facebook. The aim was to implement a human search engine with the links preselected (TAGS) and rated by humans. In 2012, the social bookmarking service was further developed into a social sharing platform. Functions were added and the look changed. New are the import, archiving and searchability of links in social networks, the creation of topics to manage the “digital” link memory and relevant link recommendations from social networks .
In the past, Oneview stipulated that web links could be saved manually by the user in the personal profile and screenshots of the respective page could also be saved (personal website archive); With the further development in the years up to 2012, the links published in a social network could also be displayed on one's own account in Oneview. From 2012, it was then possible to automatically synchronize the links distributed with the linked social media accounts ( Facebook , Twitter ).
The core properties mentioned below were retained after the relaunch in 2012:
The basic functions of Oneview as a social bookmarking service consist of saving and managing links, tagging or tagging the links, central copying of the saved links and the provision of temporally and spatially independent access to the link collection of one or all members. Furthermore, the information collected can be shared with other users. Oneview offers a search function so that the user can find the information quickly. Human-filtered information is presented in the search results. The combination of different tags as a search query is also used to quickly find the information you are looking for. Registered users have the option of creating their own collection of bookmarks and adding tags to them. As a result, a user can access his collected links at any time and find them again. The collected bookmarks can be marked as private or public. If they are released to the public, they are available to other users, regardless of whether they are registered or not. The public release includes the assignment of additional tags by other users (see also Folksonomy ).
History and Development
Due to its early foundation, Oneview can be seen as one of the pioneers of current social bookmarking and social search offers. Oneview was already available online in 2001 in 12 languages. For the concept, Oneview et al. a. 1999 with the German Multimedia Award and in the same year with the "World Medal" of the New York Festivals. In August 2000, this was followed by the “Best in eBusiness Award”.
Version 1 of the platform was replaced by Version 2 in 2005, with the old version still available until March 2007. When this was finally taken offline and completely replaced by version 2 of the newly founded oneview GmbH, the participation of the Cologne publishing house M. DuMont Schauberg was announced.
dw capital is responsible for the repositioning of Oneview in 2012, including implementation, and is involved in the company as an investor.
