Oncocytoma
In oncocytomas is a group of benign epithelial tumors that histologically the structure of fine-grained, large, eosinophilic mitochondria-rich tumor cells called oncocytes ( "Hürthle cells") have in common.
Oncocytomas occur in the salivary glands , kidney , adenohypophysis, and thyroid gland . In the latter localization in particular, the tumor is also referred to as Hürthle cell adenoma according to the physiologist Karl Hürthle .
Diagnosis
The oncocytoma of the kidney is occasionally discovered by chance on computed tomography . Differentiating it from a malignant tumor such as renal cell carcinoma is often not easy in imaging, even if characteristics such as a central scar or a so-called wheel spoke phenomenon have been described.
