The OnlineFussballManager , or OFM for short , is an online football manager game. The game was released on March 10, 2003 and is now available in various versions in German, English, Turkish, French, Italian, Spanish, Polish and Russian. The game had approximately 180,000 registered players in 2010 and 70,000 active players in April 2015.

Unlike most football managers, the OFM has a league and a friendly match every day. The league games are calculated accordingly every night. Login is not possible during this time .

history

The idea of a web-based football manager game was launched in the student club on the Merseburg campus . The game should be easy to use and yet have a complex game depth , so that on the one hand different strategies can lead to success and on the other hand success does not depend directly on the time spent by the user. The first version of the game was developed in February 2003 by Tobias Meisel and Stephan Ebert. The game went online on March 10, 2003 with many functionalities still in existence today.

In October 2003 Frank Lukaschewski took over the graphic and game design in collaboration with Tobias Meisel and Stephan Ebert. In December 2003 the development team was strengthened by Maik Dokter, a motivated OFM user. Maik Dokter and Frank Lukaschewski recognized the potential of this idea early on and took over the game in October 2005. As a result, they gradually built the OnlineFussballManager into one of the most successful football managers in German-speaking countries. On November 29, 2006, OnlineFussballManager GmbH was finally founded.

The game has received several awards in recent years, including being nominated for the first German Computer Game Award in 2009 as the best browser game.

Leagues and Countries

In the meanwhile 32 countries ( Germany , Switzerland , Austria , Italy , England , Spain , Turkey , France , Brazil , Argentina , Russia , Netherlands , Poland , Greece , Portugal , Sweden , Jamaica , USA , Cameroon , Czech Republic , Australia , Scotland , Japan , South Africa , Trinidad & Tobago , Denmark , Ireland , Serbia , Croatia , Mexico , South Korea , Ivory Coast ) there are leagues that are based on the real German league system. 18 teams play in each league. In March 2008, the district class was introduced in Germany as the lowest league in order to avoid waiting lists for the virtual game country Germany and to create greater capacities for new registrations. This had to be supplemented in the 62nd season (end of January 2009) by a starter league, which has been called the community league since season 91 (end of October 2011) in order to provide space for the clubs now playing in German leagues. The players come from 206 nations.

In addition, there has been a second German server since November 2012, on which there are leagues in a total of 16 countries. New additions are Egypt , Bosnia and Herzegovina , Cuba , New Zealand , Norway , San Marino , Thailand and Ukraine .

Team, commitment, tactics and team line-up

The manager can choose his own personal style of play from nine different game systems, three different tactics (counterattack, possession, offensive) and between five different missions (diva, fair play, normal, body-hugging, crowbar). With high stakes there is a greater chance of winning, but it also increases the risk of getting yellow or red cards, and the stake has an impact on the freshness of the players, which is crucial for training. The game system, tactics and line-up can be changed at any time. You sign players for your team from the amateur market, which is especially important for newcomers, or you can find what you are looking for on the transfer market. It is important for the squad to sign a strong goalkeeper and one or more strong strikers. This is usually crucial in order to get a successful team to the start. These two types of players are also traded the highest on the transfer market.

Player / revaluation and devaluation system

The strength of a player is determined by training points (TP) and experience points (EP). The relevant revaluation points (AWP) are determined from these two values using the harmonic mean . These values can be increased through skillful training, training camps, tournaments, stakes in matches and duels won (but they can also be reduced by lost duels and missed scoring opportunities). The player appreciation or depreciation takes place on 0./9./18./27. Matchday instead.

Seasonal schedule

A season consists of 34 game days and an additional game day 0, which is at the beginning of each new season. A league game is played every day, except on matchday 0, the result of which is calculated overnight. At the end of each season, the leagues are reshuffled: The two best-placed (sometimes third-placed) in each league are promoted to a higher league (exception: 1st league), the bottom four in each league are relegated (exception: to this one Time existing lowest league). The manager can also organize and play a friendly game every match day. Sometimes these friendly games are used to play “cups” organized by the community itself. These games also have an impact on the upgrade points of the individual players and generate additional income. Since season 68 there has also been the possibility of organizing so-called “FunCups”, which are held in addition to the friendly matches. However, these do not affect the development of the players.

Money and sponsorship

Each manager is initially provided with start-up capital amounting to € 200,000 (in Germany only € 100,000). Further sources of income are sponsorship, audience income (stadium) and skillful selling of own players on the transfer market, which is accessible to all managers across countries and leagues and is based on a Vickrey auction system. The plus account also offers the option of betting on games. You can also borrow money from the bank, but the bank charges interest for this . At the beginning of each season, the manager has the opportunity to choose the ideal sponsor for his team from five different sponsors, with each sponsor largely supporting a different goal (relegation, promotion, entry bonus or victory bonus).

Stadion

An important source of income - especially in the higher leagues - is the stadium. At the beginning, each manager has a small stadium that can hold 400 spectators. Four different blocks (north, south, east, west) can be expanded if you have the appropriate financial resources. The stadium holds a maximum of 399,996 seats and four types of stands can be used: standing room with / without roof and seat with / without roof. The entry prices can be set individually for each game in order to generate maximum profit. There are also regular costs for the repair of the stadium blocks, which - if not done - gradually reduce the stadium capacity. In addition, the stadium area can be expanded into 4 categories (floodlights, scoreboard, security and parking spaces) in 4 levels each, which has a positive effect on the number of spectators, but also causes considerable ongoing maintenance costs.

OFM and World Cup

The OFM Cup is also played on specified match days . All 1,152 teams of a country from the national league take part in this cup. In addition, 914 clubs from the national class will be drawn at random, whereby 2,048 teams take part. Progress in the cup not only brings additional income through spectators and an increasing entry fee every round, it is also another way of collecting experience points for your players.
Since the 95 season there has also been the World Cup , in which the champions and runners-up and the cup winners and runners-up from last season compete against each other from all OFM countries and thus the best OFM team is played.

Youth promotion

At the age of 15, as many youth players as the expansion stage of the youth camp offers, join the training squad on matchday 0. For this purpose, youth players can be searched for by a scout and, after the search time has expired, presented to the coach for possible inclusion in the youth squad. The players can gain strength through normal training, which can be regulated in intensity depending on the budget, as well as the number of individual training sessions to be awarded during the season, depending on the expansion stage of the camp. From the age of 17 the player is in the A-youth and can recommend himself for a professional career. A player can only be accepted into the squad if the youth player has finally decided on a career as a professional footballer. All youth players can be committed at the latest in the course of the 19th year, provided that they have already reached strength 1.

production

Since it was first published on March 10, 2003, the online football manager is still under development. In almost every season, new extensions and corrections are integrated into the game, but from version 4.1 some of these can only be used for a fee. You can "unlock" these chargeable extensions by buying so-called Kixx points, with which different selectable features can be purchased.
