Onorio Longhi (born October 12, 1568 in Viggiù , † December 31, 1619 in Rome ) was an Italian architect . He belonged to the Longhi architectural dynasty .

Life

Onorio Longhi was born in 1568 as the son of the architect Martino Longhi the Elder in Viggiù in Lombardy . He worked as his father's assistant. After his death in 1591 he took over his orders. He was a close friend of Caravaggio and, together with him, repeatedly came into conflict with the law. He was also involved in the manslaughter of Ranuccio Tommasoni by Caravaggio and therefore had to go into exile in his homeland in 1606. There he drafted plans for the Milan Cathedral , but they were not carried out. In 1611 Longhi was able to return to Rome and began building Santi Ambrogio e Carlo , the church that would become his main work. After his death his work was continued by his son Martino Longhi the younger .

Longhi was a member of the Accademia di San Luca .
